Choose a content tool for your actual task
You subscribe to an image tool because a viral thread recommended it.
Help me choose a content tool. Do not recommend specific products by name with current features or prices - you may be out of date. Help me build the test instead. MY REPEATED TASK: [describe precisely what you need to produce, how often, and what "good" looks like] MY VOLUME: [how many per week or month] MY SKILL LEVEL: [none / some design experience / professional] MY BUDGET: [amount per month, or zero] LANGUAGES NEEDED: [English / Hindi / regional] WHERE THE OUTPUT WILL BE USED: [social / marketplace listings / advertising / print / internal] WHAT I WILL UPLOAD: [product photos / customer images / designs / nothing sensitive] Give me: 1. THE TEST - three specific prompts or tasks, drawn from MY actual need, that I should run identically in each candidate tool. These must be my real task, not a showcase task. 2. THE SCORING SHEET - what specifically to look for in the output, with what a good result looks like for my use. Include the failure modes that matter for my use case - for example legible text, accurate product shape, correct hands, consistent style across a set. 3. THE CATEGORY of tool I need, and what capability actually matters for my task versus what is marketed. 4. THE INDIA CHECKS - what to verify about payment, availability, GST invoicing and connection reliability before subscribing. 5. THE RIGHTS QUESTION - exactly what I need to confirm in the terms about commercial use of the output for my specific use case. 6. THE PRIVACY QUESTION - given what I said I will upload, what I need to confirm. Tell me to check current prices and features on the vendor's own pages rather than giving me figures.
Point 2's failure-mode list is the useful part. Knowing what to look for is most of the evaluation.
Before you rely on the answer
- Run test (b) and place the two outputs side by side. Set consistency is the requirement most people forget to test and the one that most often makes a tool unusable.
- The generation-versus-compositing distinction is the key finding. Test tools in the right category before comparing them.
- Confirm the commercial rights question in writing before publishing marketplace listings.
- Ask your CA about GST treatment on imported digital services before assuming input credit.
